This Shooting Sea Star wall hanging symbolizes "happiness" and contains Amazonite, Clear Quartz, Blue Calcite, Quartz Druzy, coral fragments and shells. These elements are attached to a wooden star, hand-painted in a metallic champagne gold.  Gypsy bells hang from the bottom corners and their delicate twinkling sound reminds me of fairy wings and fireflies. Ribbons, tulle, and sari silk hang from the center and form the tail of the shooting star.   

The wooden star is 5x5 inches and the tail extends to a total length of 28 inches.

This star is a wall-hanging similar to a dreamcatcher.  Dreamcatchers are meant to hang in a bedroom, above or next to the bed.  However, this shooting star will be a beautiful addition to any room in the home.  Like all of my art, this star is extremely detailed and meant to mimic the growth of a coral reef. 

There is a special story that inspired the creation of these stars, and they will always be close to my heart.  In honor of Phyllis, a portion of all shooting star proceeds will be donated to the Children's Miracle Network.
 

The Special Story that Inspired the Shooting Stars

Four days after losing my uncle, I received text from one of my closest childhood friends, Kristen, who is like a sister to me. She told me her mother, someone very dear to my heart, was in hospice care and didn’t have much time left.

Sadness washed over me as I read the text.  At the same time, my daughter said, “look Mom!” and held up a blue play-doh star. I said, “It’s so interesting that you made that, because Phyllis told me on a number of occasions that she had never seen a shooting star. Not in her whole life.” It was a thing we talked about from time to time.

I asked Alora to add some tails to her star and I took a photo of it.  Things happened at home, and I didn’t end up sending the photo until the following morning.  An hour after sending, Kristen called me. She said that her mother had passed just moments after seeing the shooting star that Alora made for her.

So many emotions came from that moment.

In my mind, the play-doh star that Alora made was what gave Phyllis permission to let go, what set her spirit free. That is an amazing thing.

So as you can see, this shooting star has been inspired by something extraordinary. Although sadness follows the departed for those who are left behind, there is relief in knowing their next journey has begun.

Shooting stars are now permanently connected to some of the best memories of my life- the ones I shared with Phyllis and her family. When I get the privilege of seeing a shooting star, it will remind me that her spirit is right here beside me. Maybe I’ll feel her hug.
